Conversation with Hartman

During the early part of Summer 2006, Nickelodeon ran the episode of The Fairly OddParents, "Fairy Idol," a special episode poking fun in the style of the hit TV series on FOX, American Idol.

Butch Hartman, creator of The Fairly OddParents said, "Well, since American Idol is so unpopular, I thought I'd do all I could to give it a boost in the ratings! (Kidding of course!) Seriously, I've always wanted to give one of Timmy's friends a Fairy Godparent and a contest always seemed like the logical way to do so. And given the fact that American Idol is such a well known contest format, I thought it would be fun to spoof it."

As far as the length it took to create the episode "Fairy Idol," this special presentation was like any other Fairly OddParents episode as far as time to create.

"'Fairy Idol" -- like most FOP (The Fairly OddParents) episodes -- took about 10 months to complete, from the first script being written until the final mixed episode."

However, besides "Fairy Idol," wherein Cosmo and Wanda had to prove their worth once more, Timmy has to get his fairies back, and Norm the Genie causes even more trouble than normal. "The Jimmy / Timmy Power Hour III" may additionally be one of the few final episodes in which we will be entertained by Timmy Turner and his two fairies--Cosmo and Wanda--appearing in a new episode of anything to do with The Fairly OddParents.

"Yes, 'Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour III' is coming out on Friday, July 21 of 2006 on Nickelodeon. Wait… that's really soon!!... At the moment there are still episodes that haven't aired yet--like 'Jimmy/Timmy III.' As for my future, I have several new projects in development at Nickelodeon, two are animated, one is live action. All are TV shows. And, hey, if we can work a movie or two in there, so much the better!" says Hartman.

Once all of the episodes of The Fairly OddParents and "Jimmy Timmy Power Hour III" go on the air, many fans, including newer fans of Butch Hartman's work, are bound to start flocking over to Nickelodeon for more of the same!

"I'm thrilled to know that there are always new fans tuning into the show all the time so, hey, it's ALL new for them!"
